China to boost ties with India at BRICS Summit

A Chinese official on Tuesday expressed hope for the growth of China-India relations as a result of meetings between the leaders of both nations at the upcoming BRICS Summit.

"Exchanges and cooperation between China and India have seen remarkable progress in recent years and China is satisfied with the current growth of bilateral relations," said Luo Zhaohui, director-general of the department of Asian affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Luo made the remarks during a press briefing regarding President Hu Jintao's upcoming trips to the Nuclear Security and BRICS summits, as well as his visit to Cambodia.

Luo said China and India are both important members of BRICS, an organization consisting of the emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Luo said the leaders of both countries will use the occasion of the BRICS Summit to discuss topics ranging from bilateral relations, regional and international issues to significant global economic issues.

"As acknowledged by Premier Wen Jiabao and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh, there is enough space in the world for India and China to grow and work together," Luo said.

Luo said a series of activities have been arranged as part of this year's "Year of India-China Friendship and Cooperation," which follows last year's "Year of India-China Exchange."

Luo said China and India have properly managed their differences regarding border issues and the Dalai Lama in order to maintain regional peace and stability.

"China appreciates the Indian government's acknowledgement that Tibet is an inalienable part of China and that India will never allow secessionist or anti-China activities to take place on Indian territory," Luo added.
