Chinese President Hu Jintao said Monday China hopes not to see the improved situation on the Korean Peninsula is reversed, according to an official of the Chinese delegation.

During his meeting with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in Seoul, Hu stressed that recently, there have been some new developments in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, which have drawn the attention of the international community.

"At present, the situation on the Korean Peninsula is very complicated and sensitive. We do not hope to see a reversal of the hard-won momentum of relaxation of tension on the Peninsula," Hu said.

He called on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint to avoid exacerbating tension and seek an appropriate solution on that basis.

China is ready to work with other parties and continue to make active efforts to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, the president said. Hu arrived in Seoul on Sunday for a two-day Nuclear Security Summit which starts on Monday.
