China urges restraint on Korean Peninsula

2012-04-11 09:49 Xinhua     Web Editor: Su Jie comment

China on Tuesday called on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint to avoid an escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin made the remarks at a regular press briefing in Beijing.

"China has repeatedly expressed its concern and worries about the developments on the issue," Liu said. "China believes that safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia is in the interests of all. It is also the shared responsibility of all."

He said China maintains its position on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and hopes relevant parties would obey international laws and make joint efforts to prevent mitigating momentum on the Korean Peninsula from worsening.
