Chinese leader mourns death of Ethiopian PM

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, mourned the death of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi Tuesday at the country's embassy in Beijing.

On behalf of the Chinese government, Li expressed his condolences and presented a wreath.

Li also left a signature in a guestbook praising Meles's contributions to his country and to China-Ethiopia relations.

State Councillor Dai Bingguo and senior officials from the Foreign Ministry, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Commerce, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and China Development Bank joined Li for a brief ceremony at the embassy.

On Aug. 22, President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao sent their own condolences to Ethiopia regarding the death of Meles.
