State Councilor Dai Bingguo said Monday that China and Vietnam should expand bilateral relations by firmly sticking to the "right direction" regarding their ties.

Dai made the remarks during a meeting with representatives who were attending the fourth session of the China-Vietnam Peoples' Forum at Zhongnanhai, the central government's compound.

Dai expressed his approval of the achievements made at the fourth session of the forum.

Since last year, the leaders of both countries have conducted multiple visits, helping to boost the development of bilateral relations, Dai said.

China and Vietnam should boost cooperation in order to achieve more gains, promote friendship and enhance all-around exchanges, Dai said.

Pham Van Chuong, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the forum, said Vietnam would like to work with China to implement agreements between the leaders of both sides.

The China-Vietnam Peoples' Forum is run by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China-Vietnam Friendship Association, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and Vietnam-China Friendship Association.

The fourth session of the forum was held in central China's Henan province from Sept. 14 to 16.
