A former department director of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukeru Magosaki, has criticized the Japanese government's claim of "buying" the Diaoyu Islands.

In an article published on Toyko Web, he says Japan is trying to enrich its army forces with the help of the US by complicating the Diaoyu Islands issue. He also says Japan should cooperate with China in the future ,and avoid hurting ties between the two countries.

Ukeru Magosaki, former director of Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, "Japan could buy F35 fighter jets and warships with Aegis Combat System from US. Both US and Japan have hoped that could happen. It's drawing the attention of the public if it involves territorial disputes. And politicians could become more popular by acting tough in terms of territorial issues. However, it's dangerous to do so, as it can trigger violence or even war. I believe politician should put the interests of the public in the first place instead of personal gains."
