World leaders, parties, organizations congratulate Xi

Congratulations continued to flow in from countries, political parties and friendship organizations around the world to Xi Jinping on his election as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the European Union-China relationship has developed tremendously since the launch of their comprehensive strategic partnership in 2003.

"We are looking forward to meeting you again to further promote our bilateral relations and our cooperation on international issues," they said.

Italian President Giorgio Napolitano recalled his meeting with Xi in Rome when Italy commemorated the 150th anniversary of the country's unification.

He said he believed that under Xi's leadership, Italy and China would further deepen bilateral cooperation and make greater efforts for peace and development of mankind.

Mozambican President Armando Emilio Guebuza, also president of the Mozambique Liberation Front Party, said the Mozambique-China strategic partnership stemmed from the traditional friendship between the two parties and peoples.

The Mozambique Liberation Front Party is ready to continue to consolidate and strengthen the friendly cooperative relations between the two parties and peoples, he said.

Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, also chairman of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party, said Xi's election is "a clear testimony and affirmation of the confidence and trust" that members and leaders of the CPC have in him.

"The entire membership and leadership of Chama Cha Mapinduzi reiterates its commitment to continue working closely with you and the Communist Party of China to further strengthen and consolidate the long-standing fraternal relations that so happily exist between our two parties, two governments and two peoples," he said.

Israeli President Shimon Peres said the achievements of China and the CPC in the last few decades have been impressive and praiseworthy.

"I am confident that under your leadership, the collaboration between our two countries in these areas as well as many others will only grow stronger and deeper for the benefit of our two peoples," he said.

Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck said the Chinese people, led by the CPC, have scored remarkable achievements in economic development.

He voiced his confidence that under Xi's leadership, the CPC will become stronger and build a more harmonious and prosperous China.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, also chairperson of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), said he is confident that Xi will continue the impressive quality of leadership and further enhance the development of China to contribute to the realization of a harmonious global order.

"I would like to reiterate the commitment of the EPRDF in further strengthening the fraternal ties with the CPC," he said.

Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, also leader of the Mauritius Labour Party, said under the leadership of Xi, China will continue to play an increasingly important role in the international arena.

"The ties which bind us are based on solid foundations of history, friendship, cultural affinities and mutual respect," he said.

Bhutan's Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley said that China, led by Xi, will not only experience further progress and prosperity, but give the troubled world inspiration and constructive leadership.

"Bhutan cherishes the warm and cordial relations between our countries. It continues to remain the desire of the Royal Government to see the relations between our two countries flourish," he said.

Eamon Gilmore, Irish Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Labor Party, extended "warmest congratulations" on Xi's election as the CPC leader.

"I wish you and your colleagues in the CPC success, as you continue work for the development of China and the prosperity and welfare of its people," he said in a message.

In his congratulatory message, former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew said: "I am confident that under your able leadership, China will overcome these challenges, continue along its path of peaceful, and scale new heights."

"I wish you every success in your new responsibilities," said Lee.

Singapore's former Prime Minister and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said that China has made tremendous social and economic achievements over the past decades.

"As our countries develop, bilateral relations have grown from strength to strength. I am confident that the ties between our two countries will grow even closer in the years ahead," he said.

Sonia Gandhi, president of India's National Congress Party, said in her note that India and China share a strategic and cooperative partnership which has developed over many year through diligent efforts of the leaders of both political parties.

"I am confident that under our able leadership relations between our political parties, as well as between India and China, will continue to expand and grow," she said.

Chua Soi Lek, president of Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), said that under Xi's leadership, the CPC will continue to forge ahead and make outstanding achievements.

The MCA hopes that the CPC will make greater contributions to harmony and progress in China as well as in the world at large, he said.

Koh Tsu Koon, leader of the Malaysian People's Movement Party, said in a message that under Xi's leadership, China is sure to score greater achievements.

In his congratulatory message, Luis Ayala, secretary general of the Socialist International, said: "We look forward to constructive and fruitful relations with the CPC and China in facing crucial challenges that lie ahead, in working for a more peaceful and just world with cooperation, conflict resolution, protection of the environment and global financial system that benefits and provides opportunities for all."

Tom Curran, general secretary of Ireland's Fine Gael, expressed "best wishes" to Xi on his accession to the position of the CPC general secretary.

The Fine Gael party "looks forward with interest to viewing" China's advancement and is confident that Ireland-China ties will continue to strengthen, he said in a message.

Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, chief of the Spanish Socialist Workers's Party (PSOE), said he is confident the PSOE and the CPC will continue to promote cooperation and dialogue so as to advance sustainable social development and progress of their respective countries.

Vladimir Voronin, president of Moldova's Party of Communists, said in his congratulatory message that he is confident the two brotherly parties will conduct fruitful cooperation in the future.
