China, Tajikistan pledge to boost law enforcement co-op

Chinese state councilor Meng Jianzhu met with Tajikistan's Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimov on Monday, pledging to boost cooperation between the two nations on law enforcement.

Meng, also secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and minister of public security, said China sees Tajikistan as a good friend and reliable partner, and the country is willing to make joint efforts with the central Asian country to advance neighborly and friendly cooperation in a sustained way.

Mentioning increasing rates of drug trafficking and the three evil forces of extremism, terrorism and separatism in central Asia, Meng said China and Tajikistan should take more effective measures between their law enforcement organs to counter transnational crimes in a pragmatic way and safeguard the security and stability of the two nations as well as the region as a whole.

For his part, Rahimov said Tajikistan attaches great importance to law enforcement cooperation with China, and it is ready to step up cooperation and exchanges with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security in multiple fields.

After the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum on border area cooperation.
