A special envoy of Chinese president met with Mexico's new President Enrique Pena Nieto on Saturday and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Lu Yongxiang, also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes from President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to Pena Nieto.
China has always viewed its relations with Mexico from a strategic height, Lu said.
China is ready to work with Mexico to further deepen political mutual trust, expand pragmatic cooperation, strengthen communication and coordination on international affairs, and promote the long-term, healthy and stable development of the bilateral strategic partnership, he said.
Pena Nieto thanked President Hu for sending a special envoy to attend his inauguration ceremony and asked Lu to convey his cordial greetings to Hu and Premier Wen.
The Mexican government attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is willing to further enhance bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields to promote the China-Mexico strategic partnership to a new level, said the president.
Pena Nieto was sworn in as Mexico's new president on Saturday for a six-year term.
