Liu Yunshan, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with former Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat Monday, calling for a closer partnership through party-to-party exchanges.
Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that exchanges between ruling parties are conducive for both sides to learn from each other's experience on governance and boosting friendly cooperation between the two parties and the two states.
The current visit by the delegation of Puea Thai Party (For Thailand Party) marked the first official exchange between the two ruling parties, Liu told Somchai, a senior advisor of the Puea Thai Party (For Thailand Party).
The CPC attaches great importance to its relations with the Puea Thai Party, Liu said, adding that the CPC is ready to adhere to the principle of equality and mutual trust, enhance all-calibre exchanges with the Puea Thai Party, improve exchange mechanisms so as to lift the level of cooperation and push for the advancement of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Thailand.
He also briefed Somchai on the highlights of the 18th CPC National Congress, which concluded on Nov. 14.
Somchai congratulated China on the conclusion of the CPC National Congress and the election of a new generation of top Chinese leaders.
Thailand and China have a profound friendship, said Somchai, adding that the two governments have maintained good cooperation.
The CPC, with rich experience on governance, has played an important role in the stability and development of China, said Somchai.
He said the Puea Thai Party would like to learn from the CPC and further intensify exchange and cooperation with the CPC.
