Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says the country needs to boost its logistics sector to spur domestic consumption.
On his visit to the Ministry of Commerce Monday, Wen said the Chinese economy should adapt to a changed environment and keep raising domestic demand. In order to achieve the goal, government officials should simplify segments of the logistics industry and lower management fees by carrying out relevant policies.
Meanwhile, public and private sectors should jointly set up direct links between sales and production to drive down the price of goods. China's inefficient logistics system, including excessive highway toll fees and entry fees at agricultural product market, has pushed up transport prices, and set obstacles to consumer consumption. The Commerce Ministry has made clear that promoting logistics development in China is its key task this year.
