UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has praised China for its leadership in world affairs and expressed hope that the realization of the "Chinese Dream" will have a positive effect on the UN and the international community.
He made the comments after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Ban Ki-moon is in China for the first time after the leadership transition in the country.
During their talks, President Xi Jinping said that China and the United Nations had been maintaining a strong partnership. He stressed that China would continue promoting dialogue and negotiation for peaceful settlement of international disputes, and supporting the UN Millennium Development Goals. China, he said, is dedicated to making greater contribution to world peace and human progress.
For his part, Ban Ki-moon congratulated the country on the successful launch of the Shenzhou-10 spacecraft. He said that the realization of the "Chinese Dream" would be positive for the UN and the international community. Ban also praised China's peacekeeping operations. The Chinese President and the UN Secretary General also exchanged views on many issues including the Syrian crisis, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
