China 'strongly condemns' UN office bombing

A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Thursday that China strongly condemns a Wednesday suicide bombing that killed 22 people including UN employees in Mogadishu, Somalia.

"China strongly condemns the attack that targeted the UN and its staff," spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press conference.

She also extended condolences to the victims and sympathy for their families.

"China will work with the international community to continue its efforts against terrorism and play a constructive role in helping Somalia restore peace," Hua said.

Suicide bombers attacked the UN's office in Mogadishu on Wednesday, killing 22 people. The al-Qaida-linked militant Al-Shabaab group claimed responsibility for the attack.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moonon Wednesday said he was "concerned and outraged" by the news of the attack.
