China on Sunday rebutted a US report on its religious freedom, urging the United States to discard bias and stop using religious issues to interfere in its internal affairs.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement that the Chinese government protects its citizens' religious freedom according to law, and the Chinese people enjoy full freedom of religion and belief provided by law.
The Chinese law does not allow anyone to commit crimes in the name of religion, Qin added.
The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) issued its annual report on Friday, recommending the US government to continue to put China on the list of "countries of particular concern."
For years, the contents concerning China in the report issued by the commission have been "full of false remarks and misled the public," Qin said.
"We urge the US side to discard bias and stop using religion to interfere in China' s internal affairs," he said.
