CPE: THIRD PILLAR OF CHINA-US RELATIONS

It is noticeable that for the first time, the CPE and the S&ED will be held at the same time this year. The two events will have a joint opening ceremony.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the United States. Seizing this opportunity, the fifth round of the CPE will be held under the theme of building bonds between youth and creating a peaceful future, Chinese Vice Education Minister Hao Ping said.

The two countries will sign a series of cooperation agreements and are expected to achieve outcomes in 103 programs, Hao said.

Holding the consultation and the dialogue at the same time has a significant meaning, said CICIR Vice President Yuan.

Yuan said people-to-people exchanges, which play an irreplaceable role in promoting a new type of major-country relations, have become a pillar -- along with political mutual trust and cooperation in trade and economy -- in building the new China-US relations.
