The Constitution Day on Dec 4 will boost Chinese people's awareness of the law and further boost the country's drive to establish the rule of law, says a People's Daily editorial to be published on Thursday.
The inaugural day was set up last month following a meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on the rule of law.
On Wednesday, President Xi Jinping stressed that the Constitution is the highest law of the country and it embodies the will of the Party and the people, calling for more awareness of the Constitution, and better understanding of the role of law.
"The nation's Constitution reflects the achievements from the revolutions, constructions and reforms made by the people under the Party's guidance, and it establishes the leading status of the CPC," says the article to be carried in the flagship paper of the CPC Central Committee.
"Practices prove that our Constitution is in line with the country's conditions, reality and the times... it's also the basic legal guarantee for the nation and its people to endure various difficulties, risks and tests and follow the socialist path with Chinese characteristics," it says.
According to the article, "the life of Constitution" lies in its implementation, and only through implementation can it cultivate people's mind and acts and realize its values.
Noting slack law enforcement in some departments and regions as well as a weak sense of the Constitution among some people and officials, the editorial says the Constitution Day is an effort to "bring the spirit of the Constitution deeper into people's hearts" and make it their "common belief."
It calls for further promotion of the Constitution among the public and its comprehensive implementation to boost social justice and people's livelihoods "on a higher level."
