According to Xiao Lingyun, Peking University's doctor on conservation biology on Thursday, his research team captured photos of 40 wild snow leopards at Diqing village of Zaduo county in Yushu Tibetan autonomous prefecture, northwest China's Qinghai province from April 19 to May 21, 2014. The research team installed a total of 40 infrared cameras at the 1,000-sqaure-kilometer area, which is also the source region of Lancang River. Snow leopards are China's first-class national protected animals, whose number is dramatically reduced for illegal hunting. In China, the number of snow leopards is even less than giant pandas'.
