Large number of dead freshwater snails are seen piled at a dock of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Hangzhou. The dead and rotten shells pollute water in the canal and release odor, posing health risks to local residents. Local fisherman said those snails died in the dock after being dumped here by those who were intended to set them free. Setting animals free is considered by Buddhists as an act of compassion that will be rewarded with good karma. [Photo/zjol.com.cn]
