Farmers burn straws in the suburb of the province’s Changchun city on Tuesday evening, October 27, 2015. An investigation team with five researchers started to monitor air quantity on fire sites across the province that detected by remote sensing satellite. The recent bout of smog and haze, which shrouded north, east and central China, is likely to generate from straw burning, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Chinese farmers traditionally burn straw after harvest and bury the ashes below the ground, as they believe it fertilizes the land. (Photo/CFP)
