Zhi answers a phone call while leaving her son at a village in Linji town, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The end of China’s Spring Festival holiday, which ran from Feb. 7-13, means many people must again leave home to seek better employment in bigger cities. Zhi, 40, is a delivery woman in Chengdu and has to say goodbye to her seven-year-old son, who lives with his grandparents in the rural area. The boy cried “you can't treat me like this” at the moment of his mother’s departure. Zhi said she also has a daughter studying in high school and has to leave home to make ends meet.
