Police in south China’s Guangdong Province assess some of the 450 kilograms of smuggled ivory seized by border control police earlier this month. The haul, comprising 221 pieces, is worth about 18 million yuan ($2.8 million), the public security department said on March 21,2016. Border police received a tip-off on March 4 that the contraband would be transported by boat from Hong Kong to Zhuhai, a city in Guangdong. The boat was spotted and the ivory seized, but its crew evaded capture, police said. (Photo/CFP)
