Zhang, 51, worked in many diverse jobs, including being a vegetable seller and a carpenter, until he settled down in 2006 to build a wharf and trade construction materials. In 2014, he made a submarine by hand that was six meters long, 60 meters wide and up to 1.5 meters high at a cost of 5,000 yuan ($770).
