Ceramics are one of the most representative forms of Chinese cultural creativity, and it plays an important role in global exchanges even today.
A Chinese contemporary ceramic art exhibition, now on in Quito, Ecuador, has 86 works that showcase how Chinese artists blend traditional aesthetics with modern tastes. The show is being held at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador through Feb. 15. Some of the works feature the techniques of "Zhu Shan Ba You", an eight-artist group active in the early 20th century whose ceramic painting skills helped modernize the art.
