Ai Yijing (C),a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre, mourns the victims with her family at the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, Dec. 9, 2016. A series of ceremonies were held by people to mourn their family members killed in the 1937 massacre ahead of the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims, which falls on Dec. 13. Japanese troops captured Nanjing, then China's capital, on Dec. 13 of 1937 and started a campaign of slaughter lasting longer than a month. More than 300,000 Chinese civilians and soldiers who had laid down their arms were murdered and over 20,000 women were raped. (Xinhua/Ji Chunpeng)
