Chinese character "Gui", or "rule," has been chosen by Chinese netizens as the character of 2016. "Xiaomubiao", which means "small target", has been found the most popular word of the year in China. The word was from remarks of Chinese billionaire Wang Jianlin who suggested young people should not be “too ambitious” and should "set a small target first, like earning 100 million yuan ($14.4 million)," during a television show in August, 2016. Meanwhile, "Change" and "One Belt One Road" have been chosen as words of 2016 for the world. The top buzzwords were announced at an event co-sponsored by the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, the Commercial Press, and People’s Daily Online on December 21, 2016 in Beijing.
