The British Museum's highly-acclaimed A History of the World in 100 Objects has already attracted more than 1 million visitors during its world tour. This week, the exhibition began its China leg of the tour. It's on at the Beijing's National Museum of China until May 31, before traveling to Shanghai Museum from June to September.

The exhibition evolved from a broadcasting series that the London museum started in partnership with the BBC in 2010. Each 15-minute program introduced one of 100 objects from the museum's collection that revealed the communication methods of various human cultures over the course of 2 million years.

The exhibition is not intended to show the differences between cultures, but what they have in common.
