One of China's major giant panda habitats, the Tangjiahe Nature Reserve is located in Qingchuan County on the northwestern edge of Sichuan Basin, approximately a five-hour drive from downtown Chengdu. Established in 1978, Tangjiahe Nature Reserve covers an area of 400 square kilometers. Around 430 species of wild animals including pandas, takins and golden monkeys inhabit the area.
