Liu Jinying, a farmer in his twenties in Luzhou, Sichuan Province, has become an online celebrity after live streaming aspects of his countryside life, making more than 80,000 yuan ($12,000) in half a year. Liu is the only man of his age living in the village, while other young people have chosen to migrate to work in cities for better income. After waking up at 6am, Liu usually broadcasts his daily routines – housework, catching fish or shrimp, feeding pigs, and farming in rice fields. He has nearly 100,000 followers on a video streaming website, where followers pay him by tipping. Liu’s parents still think their son should get a proper job, instead of broadcasting what they believe to be nothing special. Liu uses the name Golden Cow online, and also calls his followers his “Holy Cow Family”. He also says he is not a cyber star, but a farmer who wants to cash in on the Internet. (Photo/VCG)
