China's manned submersible Jiaolong prepares to be released into the sea for scientific research from its carrier Xiangyanghong 09, July 16, 2014. Jiaolong and its support ship the Xiangyanghong 09 are on a scientific research voyage in the northwest Pacific Ocean, during which it will research cobalt-rich crusts and life forms inhabiting the bottom of the sea.
