A bullet train makes its maiden trip from a railway station in Lanzhou, Northwest China’s Gansu province to Urumqi, capital city of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Dec 26, 2014. The Lanxin high-speed railway linking Urumqi with Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, and Lanzhou, slashes total travel time from more than 23 hours to 11 hours and 50 minutes. The 1,776-km high-speed rail line, with a designed speed of 250 km per hour, is China's first high-speed railway built in a high-altitude region. Train attendants also performed “flash mob” dances to celebrate the start of the line. [Photo: China News Service/Yang Yanmin]
