A dozen modern examples of arts and crafts were added to the collection of National Museum of China in Beijing on Monday in an effort to promote traditional handicraft techniques. (Photo provided to China Daily)

The works include a green, lacquer vase produced by Gan Erke, a State-designated inheritor of the lacquerware-making technique in Anhui province; a stone seal carved by Zheng Shengliang from Zhejiang province; and a wood carving by Li Fengrong from Fujian province that portrays ancient literati enjoying cultural entertainments such as playing Go. The collected works were displayed at an annual exhibition of arts and crafts held in July at the same museum. It not only celebrated the brilliant handicrafts that have been passed down for generations, but conveyed the underlying cultural values held dear by the Chinese.
